The Spoken Word & The Silent Heart
(Words & Music by Keith Brown - August 1977)

THE SPOKEN WORD:

I gave a girl a seed of love,
She cast it to the winds above,
And I don't think I'll ever love again.
The enemy lies deep within
The suffering souls of crying men,
And I don't think I'll ever love again,
The burning flow of love I gave
Can't justify the dues to her that I have paid.

THE SILENT HEART:

I need to laugh, I feel such fright,
I need a love to hold at night,
I need these things to flow right through me,
Good God, don't do this to me,
Send this message loud and clear,
The Silent Heart held prisoner here
Within this place where darkness masks
The Silent Heart and all it asks of you,
You ask what should you do?
Girl, the answer's in the wind right there in front of you.

THE SPOKEN WORD:

Emotions, like old river beds,
Have all dried up, their course long dead,
Yet I've no time to worry 'bout that now,
For to hurt and be hurt, we have paid
The prices each of us have made,
And I don't think I'll ever love again.
And she was thriving off of me,
Oh, how her ego soared to see me hang and bleed.
Stay back, girl don't get close to me,
And speak not now of love but speak to me of free,
Stay back, you'll spend your time in Hell
To only get yourself a Silent Heart as well.

A love that’s based on lies and cheating,
Has little chance now of succeeding,
But the Silent Heart, it keeps on beating.

A wayward soul out in the rain now,
A spirit torn and broken somehow,
A Silent Heart that’s kept in chains now…
